Revolut commits to new global HQ at Quadrant’s YY London building in Canary Wharf

Quadrant, the independent UK real estate asset management and development company, today announces Revolut, the global fintech, is finalising a move to relocate its global headquarters to YY London, taking 113,000 sq ft of space at the newly refurbished ESG-led 415,000 sq ft Canary Wharf office building.

Revolut, which began as a start-up on Canary Wharf’s Level39 in 2015, conducted a London-wide search for its new global headquarters, and opted for YY London due to its best-in-class workspace, nearby amenities, and leading ESG credentials. Revolut is set to move into floors 9, 10, 11 and 12 at YY London.

YY London represents the transformation of one of Canary Wharf’s first office buildings into one of Europe’s smartest and most sustainable workplaces. Formerly known as 30 South Colonnade and first completed in 1991, it was previously home to Thomson Reuters and was renowned for the stock ticker that ran around its curved façade. Following its refurbishment, YY London’s design prioritises productivity, health, and sustainability. With smart technology, WELL Platinum amenities, and biophilic design, it offers flexible, efficient spaces that enhance occupier wellbeing and redefine the modern hybrid workplace.

YY London is an all-electric BREEAM Outstanding building aiming for net zero in operation and sets a new benchmark for ESG-focused office space, and is one of the UK’s first NABERS 5* rated workspaces. YY London’s innovative retrofit saw much of the building’s existing structure being reused, saving an estimated 10,260 tonnes of CO2 emissions. YY London is part of the catalyst driving the wider reimagination of Canary Wharf, providing a sustainable Grade-A building suited to modern occupier requirements offering a blueprint for how the estate’s older buildings can be transformed for the future.

The deal will see Revolut’s office footprint in London increase by over 40%. As a remote-first business, the company plans to use its new office in a more innovative way, taking advantage of the increased space for product launches, workshops, team building activities, and other events. The move will help facilitate the future growth of Revolut’s UK and global operations. Revolut previously occupied an office in Westferry Circus.

The announcement comes as Revolut reaches over nine million customers in the UK as well as recently confirming it plans to grow its global workforce by 40% in 2024.

Nik Storonsky, Co-founder and CEO of Revolut, commented:

“We are delighted to be committing to a new global headquarters in the centre of London’s financial district. Revolut started out in 2015 with just a handful of employees. We have grown to over 10,000 employees globally, and our new headquarters will ensure we continue to build on this success. This office will serve as Revolut’s home as we expand across the globe.”

Francesca Carlesi, CEO of Revolut UK, commented:

“Revolut continues to grow from strength to strength across the UK. We now have over nine million customers, an astonishing milestone for a company less than a decade old. This new head office strengthens our commitment to the UK, our home country, whilst also establishing the foundation to support future growth.

“For our teams at Revolut, this will be much more than an office. It will be a space to co-create, innovate and work productively in, but also a new creative environment to attract new talent across engineering and banking fields. Working at Revolut will be for those wishing to be at the centre of the UK’s most innovative financial sector.”

Tristram Gethin, Founding Partner at Quadrant said:

“We welcome Revolut to YY London. Revolut’s story is exceptional, having grown from being a start-up on Canary Wharf’s Level39 in 2015, into a leading global fintech today. Canary Wharf has been completely transformed into a thriving mixed-use neighbourhood and leisure destination in recent years, which has been supported by YY London, a new sustainable building that delivers on what modern businesses like Revolut require from their workspace. That Revolut has expanded into such substantial space at YY London is testament to the building’s quality and signals the future Canary Wharf is set to have as a home to the world’s most innovative rapidly growing businesses.”

Revolut’s move to YY London is still subject to completion, and there is no set timeline on when the company expects to move its staff.

YY London was purchased in 2019 by a joint venture between Quadrant and funds managed by Oaktree Capital Management, L.P. to extensively refurbish the building to a highly modern standard. The refurbishment completed in 2023.
